THE PINELLAS OPERA LEAGUE PRESENTS "OPERA ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON"

Dates are February 19th, March 11, April 8, May 13, June 17 .  All presentations start at 1:30pm.  "Carmen" with Placido Domingo will be shown on February 19th, at 1:30pm.

Free and open to the public but we do appreciate a suggested donation of $3 to help us with rising operating costs.

LECTURE SERIES "ADVENTURES IN MUSIC AND OPERA"

The Marcia P. Hoffman Performing Arts Institute is proud to invite you to “Adventures in Opera and Musical Theater" Lecture Series sponsored by the Pinellas Opera League, which seeks to educate and promote an appreciation of opera in the Tampa Bay area. There will be live performances by opera singers, dancers, skits, and film excerpts from DVDs, videos, and music from CDs, on Wednesday, from 2:00 to 3:30 P.M. There is no charge for parking.

The series will be held at the Murray Studio Theater, located at 1111 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater, Florida. Individual tickets are $6.00 per lecture, or a package of six lectures for $30.00.

FEBRUARY 29-2012-“SURRALISM” IN OPERA” (Dali by design)-Bill Weiss and Peter Tush, special guest from the Dali Museum. Not only will we illustrate Dali’s set designs, but also what could only be called “surrealistic” operas. Also will be examples of re-imagined stagings of traditional operas. Ample use of video and clips and slides will be used in a multi-media presentation.

MARCH 21-2012-“WHAT’S MY LINE” (Vocation and Avocation) -Bill Weiss-You will be surprised how many of your favorite singers came from fields far removed from opera or how many of your favorite stars once sang opera.

APRIL 25-2012-“CONDUCTORS” (Styles and Trials)-Constantine Grame. He will explore the various types of conductors and give insight into the lives, careers, and personalities of history’s most famous conductors.
